Steve Dye, Chief of Police
Steve Dye was sworn in as the City's sixth Chief of Police on Feb. 1, 2024. He has over 35 years of law enforcement experience, beginning his law enforcement career in Houston and working his way through the ranks in Arlington, Garland, Colleyville and Grand Prairie. Prior to joining the City of Allen, Dye served as Chief of Police in Colleyville and Grand Prairie before becoming that city’s City Manager.

Chief Dye decided to return to law enforcement to further his commitment to community policing, organizational transparency and partnerships based on mutual trust. He is the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions in his career including two Community Policing awards from the International Association of Chiefs of Police.

Responsibilities
The Office of the Chief of Police handles strategic planning, budget planning, day-to-day law enforcement agency operations, special guest appearances, department hiring and separations, payroll, and more. It also provides direct oversight for Internal Affairs, Community Relations, and the Chaplaincy Program.
