Allen Parks and Recreation offers a variety of programs year-round for people with disabilities. The Special Needs and Adapted Program (SNAP) is unique in that time is dedicated to skill development and social interaction during each class and event. SNAP’s goal is to offer everyone with special needs a fulfilling experience in a fun and supportive environment.
Our facilities feature handicap-designated parking and are wheelchair accessible. Most facilities have automatic front doors and several facilities offer extra-wide parking spaces for ramped accessible vehicles.
Current Programs
Adapted Aquatics
This program introduces children, their parents, caretakers and adults of all ages to a safe aquatic environment for improving recreational swimming and water safety skills. Call 214.509.4700 to schedule a free in-water skills assessment or to find out more about the program.
Dance for Adults with Disabilities (SNAP Dance)
Each dance features live music, a fun and creative theme, snacks and a commemorative photo. Each dance takes place the second Friday of every month. For more information, call 214.509.4750.
Project H.O.M.E. (Help Our Missing and Endangered Persons)
Project HOME helps Allen first responders identify children or adults who are unable to communicate their names or addresses due to a cognitive impairment. If the individual is found wandering, Allen Police can search the database for individuals who match the physical description.
To enroll, the individual (or his/her caregiver) should complete an information sheet and submit a photo to Allen Police Department. Records technicians upload the photo, physical descriptions and other information into our record management system. For more information, email Police Records or call 214.509.4350.
