Councilmember Place No. 2 (Term: 2014 - 2017)Councilmember Ross Obermeyer has served in various capacities for the City of Allen since 1992. A graduate of Leadership Allen’s 1991-92 Class III, he was appointed to the Parks and Recreation Board (1992-1994) and then served on the Planning and Zoning Commission (1994-2002), before being elected to the City Council.
Elected to the Council in 2002, and reelected in 2005, 2008, 2011 and 2014, Obermeyer currently serves on the Nominating Committee (2002-present), as council liaison to the North Texas Municipal Water District (2008-present), and on the Community Development Corporation (2009-present). He is retiring from the Council in June of 2017.
During his 15 years as part of City Council, he has served on the Senior Center Facility Oversight Committee and the Convention and Visitors Bureau Council Committee. He has also served as council liaison to the Library Board, the Parks and Recreation Board, and the Arts of Collin County Commission.
Obermeyer appreciates the civic spirit that is demonstrated by citizens of Allen, and enjoys serving alongside many as a volunteer . The Allen Parks Foundation and the Connemara Conservancy are two non-profit organizations he serves on the Board of Directors. In 2009, he was named among “21 Leaders for the 21st Century” by Collin County Business Journal.
Obermeyer received his bachelor’s degree from the University of North Texas. He then worked at Texas Instruments in a number of management positions and retired after 33 years. He is a licensed real estate agent in the State of Texas, and does occasional substitute teaching for AISD. He enjoys a variety of sports including golf, ice hockey, basketball, skiing and traveling. He has been married to his wife, Marilee, for 45 years; they have three grown children and four grandchildren.
